How to optimize with video...

I had a client ask about marketing with podcasts or video. I did some research and this is what I found - not new news, just some help.

1. Make the video quality stuff. If it's not good, it's probably not going to be worth the time invested.

2. Put the site name in the video. (Not all video farms allow links.)

Here are a few sites you can share your video with:

youtube.com
myspace.com
google.com
spikedhumor.com
revver.com (this one pays you)
metacafe.com (this one too, but I'm yet to make a dime on it)
stupidvideos.com

Here are a few websites to propagate your video:

digg.com
milkandcookies.com
reddit.com
stumbleupon.com

Do any of you have anything to add?

Those are some really useful sites. I will bookmark them now so I can use them in the future.

Great advise

Video marketing can be a great way to reach people and I think this post does a good job of walking you through what to do once you've got your video on your computer. I'd just like to add a little bit on how to actually get the video onto your computer.

The easiest way to get your video onto your computer these days is by way of a digital camcorder. If you don't have one, chances are someone you know does. Most digital camcorders still record onto tape, which means you still have to "capture" the video you've recorded into a file. Digital camcorders will usually connect to a computer through a firewire cable. Nearly all laptop and desktop computers produced within the last 2 years will have a firewire connection. If your computer doesn't have such a connection you may want to check with local photo shops. Many of them have video transfer services where you provide them with a video tape and they'll transfer it to a DVD.

If your computer does have a firewire connection you'll need a firewire cable. You have to be a little careful buying a firewire cable because there are two different sizes for the plugs. Most camcorders are going to take a 4-pin connection, but desktops and laptops sometimes have a slightly larger 6-pin connecion. To determine what kind of cable to purchase compare the input on your camcorder with that of your computer. If they're the same size you'll need a 4-pin to 4-pin cable. If one of the plugs is bigger and more square then you'll want a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. Firewire cables can be purchased from just about any local electronics or office supply stores.

With your digital camcorder and firewire cable in hand the rest is fairly simply. Turn your camcorder on and plug it into your computer. As long as you're running Windows XP or later, you should be walked through the process of capturing your video. Once you capture the video to you computer you'll have it in a file format and can pick up with the instructions already given. If for some reason Windows doesn't recognize your camcorder or the Windows software isn't working properly you can also find video capture software online and in retail stores that sell computer parts and software.

I think the only thing I notice is using Google Video vs just Google.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Digg option. If you put the right video on Digg, you could easily get a ton of traffic from that alone!

Nate,

You have a link about cost effective web hosting. I've used Godaddy.com for a longest time now, and can't be happier with the quality and reliability of service. Even have a "personal" customer service rep, I can contact via email and he calls me back as soon as he can.

Anyway, he had me convert to "Deluxe hosting" where I can have up to 25 data bases and a number of websites, for about $85 per year!

Real bargain, if you have more then one site. If you are hosting one site only their Economy hosting will do for about $40/year, and they are alway running some 10-15% discounts.
